Analysis of the Status Quo of the Automotive Mold Industry in 2018 High-end molds are still scarce

Time:2018-05-27

The main component of automotive molds is the cover mold. This type of mold is mainly a cold die. The "automobile mold" in a broad sense is a general name for a mold for manufacturing all parts of a car. For example, stamping dies, injection dies, forging dies, casting wax dies, glass dies, and the like.

In recent years, China’s auto manufacturers have introduced hundreds of new models each year. A considerable part of these new models is the change in the appearance of cars, which is the constant update of body panels, while keeping the engine and chassis of the car basically unchanged. The renewal of automotive panels requires the use of automotive molds as the basic equipment, which creates a huge demand for automotive molds.

The development of the automotive mold industry is closely related to the development of the automotive industry in the downstream industry. The steady and rapid development of the downstream automotive industry will greatly promote the development of the automotive mold industry. The molds are consumables, with a large amount. More than 90% of parts in the automotive industry are molded by molds, while cold work, hot work, and plastic mold steel are used at the same time. On average, 0.12 tons of molds are consumed per 10,000 vehicles. Under normal circumstances, the production of an ordinary car itself will require about 1500 molds, among which there are close to 1,000 stamping dies and more than 200 interior trim molds.

According to the “Analysis of Production and Sales Demand Forecast and Transformation and Upgrading Report of China's Auto Mould Industry in 2018-2023” released by the Industry Research Institute of Forward-looking Industry, auto dies account for about 1/3 of the market share of the mold industry, and according to the statistics of the National Bureau of Statistics, 2017 The sales revenue of China's auto molds was 266.342 billion yuan. Based on this, it is estimated that the size of China's auto mold market will reach 88.8 billion yuan in 2017. By 2023, China's auto production will reach nearly 41.82 million vehicles, with an average annual growth rate of around 6.0%, while the demand for automotive molds will reach around 500 tons.
